| I put this together last
year; figured maybe it'd be useful to somebody else. The pickups
are separated into two groups: adjustable and non-adjustable poles, but
i've put them all together in
this .CSV file though, so anybody can
(download and) sort them as needed. I went back and looked up recent
prices for all of these pickups. Prices below are the lowest on 3-7-08
from one of these sources:
aamps.us,
americanmusical.com,
elderly.com,
fiddlerscrossing.com,
fullcompass.com,
music123.com,
musiciansfriend.com. |
| COMMENTS: Active versus Passive
Many of these pickups are sold as components to a system that can be
expanded upon via the purchase of on-board electronics from the
manufacturer. Some of these pickups' sales copy incorrectly lists
active pickups as passive (Shadow) and vise versa.
Anyway, i already have outboard preamps for my acoustic guitars so this
didn't matter to me at the time i was looking into it (which is why that
info isn't there).
DiMarzio
Single coil, or double coil? It's a bit of a mystery. Their
sales copy says "hum-canceling technology", and at least one website
lists them as "humbucker". None of the other websites commit.
At least one model is for sure a single coil, because the sales copy
says "practically noise-free even compared to humbuckers" (it's worth
mentioning that this single coil pickup has two rows of adjustable
poles). The DiMarzio website didn't clear things up and the email
i sent wasn't replied to.
